Oxbow Lifts Deposit Limits on Privacy Pools, Opens Doors to Institutional Users

Oxbow, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform balancing privacy and compliance, has removed deposit limits on its Privacy Pools tool, enabling unrestricted Ethereum transactions while screening illicit funds.

Regulatory-Friendly Privacy: Oxbow’s Tool Now Accepts Large-Scale ETH Deposits

Oxbow, a DeFi platform founded in 2023, announced Friday it has removed deposit limits on its Privacy Pools tool, marking a shift toward serving institutional users and high-volume traders.

The Ethereum-based platform, which emphasizes privacy and regulatory compliance, had capped deposits at 1 ETH since its mainnet launch in April 2025 to test its anti-illegal fund screening systems.

Privacy Pools allow users to conduct private ERC20 token transfers using zero-knowledge proofs, a technology that validates transactions without revealing sensitive data.

The system screens deposits to block illicit funds, a feature inspired by research co-authored by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who was among the tool’s early adopters.

Central to the platform is its Association Set Provider (ASP), which groups deposits into compliant clusters. The ASP flags suspicious transactions, removes tainted funds without exposing user data, and permits affected depositors to reclaim assets via a non-custodial “ragequit” function.

Since its launch, Oxbow initially attracted smaller users but now aims to court whales and institutions. Oxbow’s approach aims to address a key DeFi challenge: reconciling financial privacy with anti-money laundering (AML) standards. By automating compliance checks, the platform avoids centralized control over user funds.
