Crypto Advocate Carl Moon Donates $400,000 to KidsOR, Urges Charities to Accept Crypto

Swedish entrepreneur and crypto advocate has donated over $400,000 to Kids Operating Room (KidsOR) and has urged charities to embrace cryptocurrency donations, citing their potential to simplify giving and expand global donor reach.

Crypto Advocate Donates $400,000 to KidsOR

Carl Runefelt, also known as Carl Moon, a prominent Swedish entrepreneur and cryptocurrency advocate, has donated more than $400,000 to Kids Operating Room (KidsOR), a charity providing life-saving surgical care for children in low-resource countries. Beyond his financial contribution, Runefelt encouraged KidsOR and other charitable organizations to embrace cryptocurrency to access a new, global base of donors.

Responding to questions from Bitcoin.com News, Runefelt said, “I believe all charities, including KidsOR, will be accepting digital donations over the next 5-10 years. We need to find the next generation of donors and give them options to donate their wealth in simple and easy ways.”

Runefelt argues that current systems for donations create uncertainty and people are hesitant because of implications with tax and restrictions in the current monetary system. However, by accepting cryptocurrency donations, charities will be able to help more people in need to receive life-changing support, Runefelt added.

The advocate also opined that cryptocurrency will not only become a popular method for donations but will also be an important tool for wealth creation. “I believe people who are invested today in crypto will become the next generation of philanthropists.”

Funds to Support Health Centers in Tanzania and Zimbabwe

According to a recent media statement, Runefelt’s contribution will fund two projects: one at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Tanzania and another at the Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital in Zimbabwe.

In Tanzania, the funding will be used to establish a child-focused operating theater and recovery room to address the shortage of pediatric surgical facilities. The new suite is expected to increase the number of surgeries performed annually at KCMC from around 200 to at least 2,080. This facility will also serve as a training ground for local surgical, anesthesia, nursing, and biomedical teams.

At the Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital, Runefelt’s donation has secured laparoscopic surgical equipment to enable safer and less invasive procedures with quicker recovery times.

Garreth Wood, co-founder and chairman of KidsOR, praised the donation and indicated that his organization might to adopt Runefelt’s crypto donation suggestion.

“Since 2014, KidsOR has built more than 100 operating rooms across 35 countries, enabling 726,067 surgeries. But the reality is that 1.7 billion children worldwide still lack this basic right. By embracing cryptocurrency donations, we plan to reach new supporters globally and accelerate our mission,” Wood said.

Meanwhile, the statement revealed that Runefelt’s dedication to supporting KidsOR stems from his personal journey with his younger brother, who was born with Down syndrome and endured over 60 surgeries for various serious health conditions. Now thriving at age 20, his brother remains Runefelt’s inspiration to help other children access life-saving medical care and the chance to lead healthy lives.
