ZCash (ZEC), which made a major breakthrough in the last months of 2025, reaching new all-time highs while Bitcoin and most altcoins were falling, has been performing rather lacklusterly lately.
ZEC, which hit a record high of over $700 in November, has fallen by approximately 50% to around $360.
Despite experiencing a significant drop in recent weeks, ZEC continues to make headlines, and the latest news comes from the Gemini exchange.
According to reports, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, founders of the US-based cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, donated $1.2 million to Zcash.
According to The Block, Shielded Labs announced on the 21st (local time) that it received a donation of 3,221 Zcash, worth approximately $1.2 million, from the Winklevoss twins.
Accordingly, the donation of 3,221 ZEC was sent to Shielded Labs, the ZCash developer, which includes Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox.
These funds will be used for protocol initiatives aimed at improving the security and scalability of the Zcash network, it was stated.
Shielded Labs released the following statement:
“The founders of Gemini have long been among the supporters of Zcash’s mission.”
Through Gemini, they have consistently supported the Zcash ecosystem.
Furthermore, Gemini became the first major exchange to support Zcash withdrawals.
Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss said, “Strong privacy is a must-have component of sound money. That’s why we’ve supported Zcash for years. Also, Shielded Labs is doing very important work at the protocol level. Therefore, we are happy to support Shielded Labs.”
