Ethereum holders withdrew 1.4 million $ETH from centralized exchanges during a 27% price rally. The movement reduced the liquid supply available for sale on major trading platforms this August 27.

The outflow of assets from trading platforms toward self-custody solutions and staking contracts accelerated its pace over the last quarter. According to the report from analytics firm Santiment, this behavior differs from the usual dynamics observed during bullish phases, where depositing assets for profit-taking purposes tends to predominate.

In quantitative terms, total $ETH reserves on exchanges went from 7.69 million to 6.28 million units between early June and late August. Santiment analysts point out that this 18% contraction in available inventory could limit immediate selling pressure if spot demand maintains its current pace.

Divergence from Bitcoin and Migration Toward Staking

The behavior of Ethereum holders contrasts with the metrics observed in Bitcoin during the same analyzed period. According to on-chain records from Santiment, Bitcoin balances on exchanges increased slightly by 0.25%, remaining stable near the upper limit of their historical range.

This difference reflects operational divergences in capital management between both networks. While Bitcoin traders typically keep balances on centralized platforms to execute quick transactions, Ethereum participants channel their funds directly into consensus protocols and decentralized finance.

Network data indicates that the participation rate in the Proof of Stake mechanism now exceeds 35% of the total circulating supply. Industry reports highlight that large capital holders prefer delegating their tokens to earn native yields on the consensus layer rather than keeping idle balances in centralized order books.

The price of $ETH climbed from the lows recorded mid-month to hit $2,528 per unit. Despite this price appreciation, platforms recorded a net outflow of an additional 275,000 coins starting August 19, evidencing a low willingness to sell at current price levels.

Additionally, technical activity within the ecosystem continues to develop. Official documentation from Ethereum mainnet developers maintains scheduled upcoming reviews of Layer 1 gas fee parameters—an adjustment that will be evaluated by operators in governance sessions planned for the coming weeks.
