Ethereum Just Posted Its 8th-Largest Rally: Chase ETH or Wait?

Ethereum has delivered one of its biggest daily rallies since 2018, with the cryptocurrency surging 17.9% in a single day. The move has put traders at a familiar crossroads: enter while momentum is strong or wait for the market to cool down.

Real Vision crypto market analyst Jamie Coutts said the move ranks as Ethereum’s eighth-largest daily gain since 2018. But historical patterns offer little certainty over the immediate direction.

According to Coutts, the odds of $ETH continuing in the same direction in the short term are close to a coin toss, while the probability of gains improves over the following three to six months.

$ETH Rally Creates FOMO Risk

A near 18% daily move can quickly create FOMO among traders who missed the initial jump. However, buying after such a large candle carries the risk of entering just before profit-taking begins.

Ethereum’s biggest daily gains have often been linked to strong momentum, short squeezes or wider macro moves. These rallies can continue for another day or two, particularly when trading volume is strong, but they can also quickly turn into consolidation.

What happened after big $ETH rallies?

The main takeaway is that $ETH did not consistently continue higher immediately. The short-term results were mixed, but the longer-term record shown in the chart was much stronger.

• After 30 days: The chart reports that 8 of 16 completed cases were positive, with an average return of +8.2%. That means the immediate follow-through was essentially uncertain. $ETH often pulled back or moved sideways after a huge one-day jump.
• After 90 days: The chart reports 10 of 16 positive outcomes and an average return of +20.6%. This points to a better historical setup over roughly three months than immediately after the rally.
• After 180 days: The strongest result appears here. The chart reports 12 of 16 positive outcomes, with an average return of +59.3%. Several past rallies were followed by very large six-month gains, including returns above 100%.

$ETH Faces $2,240-$2,350 Resistance

Ethereum recently moved above the $1,950 area, pushing through $2,150 and towards $2,250 before returning to test resistance.

The next major hurdle is around $2,240-$2,350. Holding the lower breakout area while consolidating above resistance would give buyers a stronger setup.

Ethereum has also significantly outperformed Bitcoin recently. $ETH gained 17.24% over seven days, compared with Bitcoin’s 8.94% rise. $ETH trading volume climbed more than 205% to $21.15 billion, while Bitcoin volume increased 101.65% to $38.77 billion.
