‘Patience is the trade’: Why Coinbase is cautious over Bitcoin in Q3

Coinbase analysts have adopted a “neutral” Bitcoin and broader crypto market outlook for Q3 2026. After printing a yearly low of $57.8K in H2 2026, $BTC has recovered by nearly 10% but has failed to reclaim $68K or the $70K level. According to Coinbase analysts, led by Colin Basco, Bitcoin appears to be transitioning from a corrective phase toward accumulation. He cited $BTC’s Supply in Loss metric, which was at 50% and matched previous market cycle bottoms.

With valuation compressed, we read this as the early innings of a bottoming process rather than a durable low already in place.

Fidelity recently echoed a similar bottoming stance.

However, he added that the macro backdrop remained “hawkish,” and cited fears of Fed rate hikes and renewed U.S.-Iran tensions.

Caution is still warranted. Re-escalation of the US-Iran conflict, resurging oil prices, and selling from prominent digital asset treasuries all present near-term bearish catalysts.

What could reignite Bitcoin momentum in Q3?

On the positive side, the analysts noted that U.S. Spot $BTC ETF flows have seen a growing recovery in H2 2026, unlike over the past six months.

However, Colin insisted that they would be more constructive about Q3 if there is a dovish pivot by the Federal Reserve (Fed) and a softer inflation print.

According to them, this would unlock liquidity, boost sustained ETF flows, and strengthen a conviction that a “durable low is forming.”

The Fed rate concerns were warranted. In fact, Kalshi was pricing a 70% chance of a Fed interest rate hike before 2027 (meaning in H2 2026).

$BTC rallied to nearly $67K earlier in the week following renewed ethics negotiations.

However, the asset slipped to $64K towards the weekend amid reported Democrat holdouts and concerns. The swings linked to the bill’s progress reinforced its influence on short-term market sentiment.

That said, from a price perspective, the main potential floor could be the average cost basis level of $53K if Bitcoin [$BTC]’s pullback extends in Q3. That would be a 17% drop from the current level of $64K.

On the upside, a sustained recovery would be confirmed if $BTC reclaims $72.3K (coinciding with the 200-day Moving Average) and $76K (True Market Mean).
