XRP Ledger Enters Next Phase With Incoming XRPL Update

Hussein Zangana, Director of Community at the $XRP Ledger Foundation, who goes by the name Vet on X, hints at an upcoming XRPL software release.

According to Vet, who is also an $XRP Ledger dual validator, a new $XRP Ledger version 3.2.0 is in the works. This, he says, is an update to further strengthen the foundation $XRP is built on. The latest $XRP ledger version release XRPL 3.1.3 has entered a two-week activation period with an expected timeline of May 27, 2026, according to XRPScan data.

The rippled version 3.1.3 contains one fix amendment fixCleanup3_1_3 and includes fixes for NFTs, Permissioned Domains, Vaults, and the Lending Protocol.

Strengthening XRPL foundation

In March, Ripple revealed it was overhauling how it secures the $XRP Ledger with AI at the center of the effort. A dedicated, AI-assisted red team was established with a focus on continuously analyzing the XRPL codebase and how features interact in real-world scenarios, not just in isolation.

This comes as the $XRP Ledger handles an increasingly complex workload. The XRPL has been operating continuously since 2012, processing over 100 million ledgers and facilitating more than 3 billion transactions.

The XRPL codebase represents over a decade of engineering evolution with design decisions made in earlier phases of the network and assumptions that held at a smaller scale. This implies that maintaining and strengthening its foundation is not optional, but an ongoing responsibility.

In this light, the most recent XRPL release included bug fixes and improvements without new features, a signal that the engineering team saw the hardening effort as a near-term priority.

The MPTVersion2 amendment (XLS-82) extends Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) support to the $XRP Ledger’s Decentralized Exchange (DEX), enabling MPT assets to participate natively in Automated Market Maker (AMM) pools, order book offers, cross-currency payments, and check-based transfers.
